Let’s be real. The best part of a good Hollywood fiction movie is the special effects. These days, with the advancements in technology, the effects in Hollywood movies seem a little too good to be true, and we are here for it.
However, the real surprise is when we see behind the scenes pictures from our favorite movies and realize that our favorite fiction scenes were just science doing its work. Baffling? Very. But it also is a reminder of how far the movie industry is getting.
1: The Dragons of Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones is probably one of the biggest series franchises that HBO has ever put out. It has fans in every corner of the world, and it is appreciated by a huge population everywhere. With the amount of fantasy occurring in this series, there is bound to be some green screen action. We all have to give Emilia’s acting a round of applause though.
2: Harry Potter and the order of the Phoenix
Harry Potter is the tale of all of our childhoods. It has shaped life and has been a complete game changer for children all around the world. The golden trio is all of our favorites. However, seeing that the magic in the school is just a green screen is quite a dream shatter. I mean, I still have all of the book series in hardbacks on my shelf. Don’t tell me it isn’t real.
3: Beauty and the beast
If anyone doubt’s the beautiful and extra talented Emma Watson, show them this picture. From a very young age, Emma has stolen hearts by her cute acting as Hermione Granger, making her an inspiration for little girls all around the world. This picture furthers proves how super talented and amazing she is. It also shows Dan Stevens doing his job beautifully.
4: Space Jam
Michael Jordan acting in this movie was probably why it made the movie so good. Some of our favorite childhood memories are brought back when we watch this movie. The snarky character of our all-time favorite Bugs Bunny also heightens the beautiful nostalgia that the film gives. Seeing this picture though, my appreciation for MJ only grows, because not only did he win our hearts – he also did a good as hell job portraying the character.
5: Life of Pi
This award-winning movie had some of the best visuals seen up to date. It told us how diverse the ocean was. And how scary getting stuck in the middle of an ocean can be. It also shows that the wildest can be tamed. We all knew that the tiger in the movie wasn’t real, and it was probably a prosthetic. But seeing that it was completely CGI is a mind-blower.
One of the most brilliant movies of all time – Titanic. The beautiful and heart-wrenching story complete with the amazing performances given by our favorite heartthrob Leonardo di Caprio and the ever gorgeous Kate Winslett brought teary smiles to our faces. Seeing that the entire thing was green screen and the movie was shot in a pool kills some of the magic though.
7: Mad Max: Fury Road
Mad Max: Fury road was given a large number of accolades. It was also called one of the best films of the decade, and probably the best action movie created. The amazing cinematography is amazing to see as a viewer, but even though the cars are real, most of the special effects are not. Not even the desert is real, and the movie is shot in a studio.
8: The Avengers
The Marvel cinematic universe is magical. The written creations of Stan Lee brought on screen has created such brilliant magic and warmed our nerd hearts to an amazing extent. It is expected that some of the scenes in the science fiction movie will probably be special effects. However, seeing Mark Ruffalo wearing the CGI suit and trying to knock around the hunk that Chris Hemsworth is, increases my adoration and respect for Mark.
9: The Wall in Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones has a multitude of special effects. Especially when it comes to the Night King, his army, the Wall and the dragons. Due to the amazing success of the series, the HBO people were finally able to show us, Jon, climbing the wall in Season 3. What an iconic moment it was for all fans. Seeing that it was just another trick of the CGI is somewhat disappointing though.
10: Pirates of the Caribbean – Dead Man’s chest
Who doesn’t love Captain Jack Sparrow? The dry wit of all the characters of the Pirates of the Caribbean series makes it one of the best fiction movies ever created. The beautiful portrayal of Davy Jones, the heartbroken sea captain, made fans all over the world melt. However, the entire tentacle face was not a curse. It was simply CGI.
